Slip Into It

Let’s talk about the slip dress.

Yes, the slip dress; a.k.a. the simplistically beautiful silhouette that conquered the fluff and frills of the 1980s to dominate the street style of the 1990s.

Well, guess what! If you haven’t noticed, they’re back and the trend has been thriving for the past few years as style stars like Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, etc. rock the classic ensemble with a modern day twist.

Clearly, celebrities are riding out this wave, perfectly executing the night gown-glam look and giving their 1990s counterparts a run for their money. And like most trends, fashion-lovers are well…LOVING it!!!

But, what happens when a non-celebrity like myself takes an attempt at the chic and sexy trend?!?

Spoiler Alert: A whole lot of PJ jokes!!!

Recently, I wore this simple black slip dress from Artizia to celebrate my 23rd birthday with friends and the first question that appeared to be on everyone’s minds was, “Are you really wearing your pajamas out?!” After proceeding with a laugh and an affirmative yes, the question was soon followed by an endless amount of jokes throughout the night and into the next morning.

“Come on C, change out of your pajamas…we’re going out,” they said.

Now, let’s make one thing clear. Most of the comments came from my guy friends who may or may not be up on the latest women’s fashion trends. BUT, even my sister questioned whether I was wearing an actual dress or a proper night gown.

Personally, I’m loving this trend and intend on buying more slip dresses as they are so versatile and instantly make any look just that more chic! I don’t mind taking all of the pajama jokes…so long as my fashion game continues to be strong.

Anyway, pajamas are in right?!? I mean look at the Christian Dada ensemble Gigi Hadid just stepped out in while running around New York City this past week.
