I just want to say a massive thank you to afreshbrewedfaith,  blackcoffeebreakfast, natttblogpinotandpeeptoes and sarahjuneblog for not only nominating me for the Blogger Recognition Award but  also for supporting me day after day throughout my blogging journey! I love the supportive nature of the blogging community, especially here on WordPress. So, if you haven’t checked out their blogs yet, what are you waiting for? They are all absolutely amazing!!!

Now let’ get started! So, here are the rules…
  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Write a post to show your award.
  • Give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to.
  • Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.
My Blog Story

So, I actually began writing on my blog two semesters ago as an assignment for a fashion journalism course I enrolled in as a part of my major at Rutgers University. It was the first fashion journalism course ever provided at the university which tended to center its curriculum on hard news writing and reporting, something I was not very interested in. Clearly in love with fashion, I was beyond excited when a spot opened up in the course! Therefore, for the past year, a large majority of my content has been dictated by requirements of my course and professor. It’s basically been an actual learning experience, learning how to become a fashion journalist. However, beginning in the summer, I’ve made a giant effort to really transform this blog into my very own, into a true representation as to who I, Ciarra Lorren, am. (You can read more about this here!)

My Advice To You

Dear new bloggers, old bloggers and any blogger in general,

I am in no way shape or form a blogging guru, however, as I’ve written for this blog for over a year now, there are several things I’ve learned and continue to learn that I wish I knew before I began blogging. I hope they help some of you!

FIRST and foremost, if you want to start a blog with the hopes of it turning into something more than merely a hobby, start the blog for yourself! Start the blog because you love to write, because you have all of these great ideas up in your minds, because you are passionate about what you are writing about. Do not write for numbers. And in that, I mean don’t get caught up in the number of likes, follows, comments, etc. or lack there of that you receive. Create posts that make you happy whether they rack in the likes or not. This is your blog, do what makes you happy, write what you would love to read.

Which, brings me to my next piece of advice, which is to be patient. Blogs (well most of them) don’t take off over night. The Internet is so saturated with people like you and I that to be discovered or to reach millions of hits in one day takes time. For instance, I’ve had this blog for over a year now and have solely 234 WordPress followers, whereas I know other bloggers that have maintained their blogs for a shorter period of time and are already reaching four to five thousand followers! Sure it could be frustrating considering the amount of time, effort and love you place into your blog, however, be patient, don’t give up and create a blog YOU love. I especially admire blogs who do the same!

Truly yours,

Ciarralorren xo

  1. Thank you for this nominee. I’m very surprised actually, my number of followers is so low I wouldn’t know who to nominate, because I also follow just a few. I should start to care more about this blog, but how you said it, I do it for myself and not for numbers. I only post when I feel so. But I will take this nominee as a sign and start working better at this blog.

    Thank again and stay inspired

    xoxo Alina

  2. Love this post! Thanks for sharing your journey. And I totally agree with not writing for numbers. Once I stopped being wrapped up in that and posted genuine content, the feedback was amazing and it pays off! Thanks again for the nomination 🙂
